Project Details
The 65th Infantry Regiment is the last and longest-standing segregated military unit in U.S. history, fought and commanded exclusively by Puerto Ricans. To Design completed grading and planting plans for this important site to Connecticut's Latino heritage. We collaborated with Crosskey Architects on the site layout and materials selection. The design of the memorial emulates features found in Puerto Rico: the walls represent the San Cristobal Fort in San Juan, the pavers represent the blue cobblestone streets in Old San Juan, and the juniper bushes were placed to emulate italian cypresses, a common planting in Puerto Rico. Currently, this memorial is the largest in the country recognizing the 65th Regiment.
